The President of the Republic of Finland’s annual compensation is specified by law and remains unchanged until Parliament decides otherwise. As of 1 March 2024, the President of the Republic of Finland is entitled to a compensation of EUR 160,000.
In addition to the compensation, the President is provided with a residence whose maintenance, heating, lighting and interior decoration, as well as the necessary staff, are paid for by the State. The President’s spouse receives no compensation or other remuneration by virtue of his or her position.
The President’s pension is regulated by law. The President’s annual pension is 60% of the President of the Republic of Finland’s compensation in force at the time. Full pension is granted to a person who has served as President for six years or more.
In addition, the State may provide a former President with a suitable residence at a reasonable rent, a separate office space as required, and transport, security, secretarial and office services within the limits of the State budget.
The President’s spouse receives no pension by virtue of his or her position, but in the event of being widowed, he or she is entitled to a survivors’ pension equal to 50% of the President’s pension.
The President’s compensation and housing benefit, as well as pension and survivors’ pension, are tax-free. For other income, the President is taxed normally.
