President Alexander Stubb at the Paris Olympics: “There is a great spirit in the Finnish team”


President of the Republic Alexander Stubb, accompanied by his spouse Suzanne Innes-Stubb, visited France between 25 and 29 July 2024. The presidential couple followed the Summer Olympic Games, which are being held in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024. A total of 57 Finnish athletes are participating in the Olympic Games.

The presidential couple visited the Olympic Village to meet Finnish athletes and their support teams. During the visit, the presidential couple got to hear about how Finnish athletes felt about the Olympics and learned about how they prepare for their sports performances.

“There is a great spirit in the Finnish team,” President Stubb said at the end of the visit.

The programme of the visit to France also included the International Summit on Sport and Sustainable Development hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and the International Olympic Committee, as well as a dinner hosted by Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee.

President Stubb also met President Bach bilaterally. During the meeting, they discussed issues such as the Olympic ideal and the physical activity of young people.

The presidential couple also attended the reception hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace on Friday 26 July.
