In their meeting on Tuesday 1 April, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed efforts to end Russia’s war of aggression and advance the Ukraine peace process.
The President and the Ministerial Committee also discussed Finland’s positions for the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Brussels on 3–4 April, which will also prepare for the NATO Summit to be held in the summer. The President and Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy also discussed topical issues related to NATO deterrence and defence.
The President and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy agreed that Finland will begin the preparations for withdrawal from the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction (the Ottawa Convention). Finland remains committed to its international obligations concerning the responsible use of mines and to the global work to minimise the impacts of mines.
The President and the Ministerial Committee also discussed Finland’s work in the G20 and ways to deepen Finland’s G20 cooperation.
