President Stubb at Munich Security Conference: “Now is the time for Europe to act”


President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb attended the Munich Security Conference from 14 to 16 February 2025.

The President’s programme included seventeen meetings, six panels and debates and eight interviews with Finnish and foreign media. During the conference, President Stubb met with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and several US Senators.

President Stubb stressed that the time for Europe to act is now:

“The situation in Ukraine was very much on the agenda of the conference. We need to support Ukraine both militarily and economically. Peace negotiations must be conducted on Ukraine’s terms.

The Munich Security Conference is an international forum for discussion organised since 1963 with the aim of building trust and promoting conflict resolution. The conference brings together foreign and security policy leaders from around the world.

In addition to President Stubb, the conference was also attended by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen and Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen.

In the Eye of the Storm: European Security Architecture 50 Years After Helsinki

On Sunday 16 February, a panel discussion on the security architecture in Europe 50 years after the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) met in Helsinki in 1975. The panel included President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, Prime Minister of Iceland Kristrún Frostadóttir and Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković. The discussion was moderated by Jamil Anderlini, Regional Director of Politico in Europe .
