President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb attended a meeting on peace and security for Ukraine on Thursday 27 March 2025 in Paris. The meeting was hosted by President of France Emmanuel Macron.
At the meeting, heads of state and government discussed the continuation and reinforcement of support to Ukraine, negotiations for a ceasefire and a lasting peace, and related security arrangements.
A united, determined Europe
“For the first time in a long time, we saw a very united, determined Europe,” President Stubb said at the press conference after the meeting.
According to the President, the message to Ukraine is clear: Europe and a ‘Coalition of the Willing’ will continue to support Ukraine financially, militarily and politically.
“Our message to the United States remains clear. We will work together with Ukraine to achieve a full ceasefire and build a lasting peace.
“Our message to Russia is that Europe has no intention to lift sanctions, on the contrary. We are already planning further sanctions against Russia,” President Stubb said.
“On Finland’s initiative, France and the UK are now taking a more formal leading role in the ‘Coalition of the Willing’. They represent us in Europe and they will coordinate the further efforts, both at military and political level.”
“We have taken a further step forward.”
