President Stubb meets with the Amir of Qatar

President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb met the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Helsinki on Wednesday 4 September 2024.

The visit began with a welcome ceremony in the courtyard of the Presidential Palace, followed by official talks and dinner.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Finland and Qatar. The President and the Amir discussed cooperation in areas such as mediation, investment promotion, education and the green transition.

Finland and Qatar are united by a common goal: to have an impact on the world that goes beyond the size of the countries.

“A small country can have global influence,” said President Stubb.

In addition, the President stressed the importance of dialogue:

“A close dialogue between our two countries is important, especially in view of the security situation in Europe and the Middle East. We thank Qatar for the active efforts for peace in Gaza and Ukraine.”

The Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, continues his visit to Finland on Thursday 5 September with meetings with the Speaker of Parliament, Jussi Halla-aho, and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.
