President Stubb to visit Utsjoki and Inari

President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb will visit Utsjoki and Inari in Lapland from 23 to 24 May 2024.

The visit will start from Nuorgam, Utsjoki on Thursday 23 May. President Stubb will visit the Nuorgam primary school and be interviewed by pupils of the school. After the school visit, the President will have lunch with representatives of the Utsjoki municipality management and reindeer breeders. The discussion will focus on topical issues related to the region and its sources of livelihood.

Later, President Stubb will meet members of the public at the Giisá community hall in Utsjoki at around 1.30 pm.

In the afternoon, President Stubb will visit the Kevo Strict Nature Reserve. The programme includes a visit to the Kevo Subarctic Research Institute, talks with representatives of Metsähallitus and a hike.

On Friday 24 May, President Stubb will meet representatives of the Sámi Parliament in Inari to discuss current issues affecting the Sámi people. The President will also visit the Sámi Museum and Siida Nature Centre, which has been nominated European Museum of the Year.

In Ivalo, the President will meet with the leadership of Inari municipality and discuss issues of current interest in the Northern Lapland region. The President will also meet representatives of the Inari Reindeer Herders’ Association.

The visit to Lapland will end at the Ivalo School and Culture Centre Kaarre, where the President will meet local people at approximately 2.30 pm.
