President Stubb visits Åland

President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb and his spouse Suzanne Innes-Stubb visited Åland on Tuesday 13 August 2024.

During the visit, President Stubb met with Åland officials and discussed current issues affecting the province. The meeting took place at Självstyrelsegården, the building in Mariehamn that houses Åland’s parliament and provincial government, and focused on self-determination, demilitarization and preparedness.

In the afternoon, the President and his spouse visited the medieval castle of Kastelholm. The day ended with a meeting with local people in the central square in the heart of Mariehamn and an interview with the President conducted by high school students Nellie Höglund and Mateo Gunell.

Mrs Innes-Stubb had her own programme during the visit in addition to the presidential couple’s programme. She visited both the Åland Maritime Museum and the museum ship Pommern in Mariehamn.
