The President of the Republic of Finland was inaugurated on Thursday, 1 March 2012. President of the Republic Tarja Halonen and president-elect Sauli Niinistö arrived at Parliament for inspection of the honour guard by President of the Republic Tarja Halonen.

President Halonen: Twelve years have gone by quickly and have lasted long
President of the Republic Tarja Halonen summed up her term in office at her last press conference at the Presidential Palace on 28 February 2012. “Twelve years have gone by quickly and have lasted long,” said President Halonen. “It is a long time in personal terms, but in a changing world things happen quickly.”
