Message of condolences by President of the Republic Tarja Halonen to President of Latvia Vaira Vike Freiberga following the blaze in Alsunga on 23 February 2007

Dear Vaira,

It was with profound sadness that I received the news of the catastrophe which took place last night in Alsunga. A great number of precious human lives have been lost and many others have been seriously injured.

On behalf of the people of Finland and on my own behalf, I express my most sincere condolences to you, to the families of the victims and to all those who are touched by this tragedy.
