The functions and powers of the President of the Republic are defined in the Constitution. In addition to those specified there, the President also discharges functions assigned to him or her in other laws.
Under the Constitution of Finland executive power is vested in the President of the Republic and the Government.
The President of the Republic conducts Finland’s foreign policy in co-operation with the Government and decides upon her relations with other states and her actions in international organisations or negotiations.
The President of the Republic is the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces.
