President of the Republic Tarja Halonen met with President of the Russian Federation Dmitri Medvedev on Friday, 5 June 2009. The bilateral talks focused on climate and the Baltic Sea issues. The Presidents also continued discussion on same topics as with Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin earlier this week in Finland.
President of the Republic Tarja Halonen attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The most important theme of the Forum this year was the global economic crisis. In her speech, the President emphasized the human dimensions and impacts of the economic crises.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum was held on 4-6 June. In addition to presidents of Finland and Russia, participants at the forum included President of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Minister for Economic Development of the Russian Federation Elvira Nabiullina and former Prime Minister of Japani Junichiro Koizumi as well as other political figures, business leaders and representatives of the academic world.
