President Halonen to attend G8 summit in St. Petersburg

President of the Republic of Finland Tarja Halonen will be travelling to St. Petersburg on Saturday July 15, 2006 to attend the summit meeting of the G8 group of leading nations. President Halonen and her husband, Dr Pentti Arajärvi, will be attending the summit dinner at the invitation of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

At the summit the Finnish Prime Minister, Mr Matti Vanhanen, will be representing the European Union, the Presidency of which is now run by Finland.
