President’s foreign policy adviser changing

President of the Republic Tarja Halonen has appointed her foreign policy adviser Aleksi Härkönen as the Finnish Ambassador to Estonia. He will return to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs on 1.8.2010 and take up his post in Tallinn on 1.9.2010. Mr. Härkönen has been the President’s foreign policy adviser since March 2009 and before that held several posts in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs from 1980 onwards.

Ms. Ann-Marie Nyroos has been appointed as the President’s new foreign policy adviser and will take up her post on 1.6.2010. She served as the Finnish Ambassador in Zagreb, Croatia from 2007 to 2010 and as Finland’s Permanent Representative at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg from 2002 to 2007. She has been with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs since 1983, holding posts that included heading the Human Rights Unit and performing a variety of tasks in the political, trade policy and development cooperation departments. She has also served in Finnish diplomatic missions in Mexico and to the OECD in Paris.
