The President of the United States Donald Trump and President of Russia Vladimir Putin met at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki on Monday, 16 July 2018. The #HELSINKI2018 meeting was hosted by the President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö.
On Monday morning, President Niinistö and Mrs Jenni Haukio welcomed President Trump and Mrs Melania Trump at their official residence in Mäntyniemi. During the presidents’ meeting, Mrs Haukio and Mrs Trump gathered for a joint breakfast.
The #HELSINKI2018 meeting began at the Presidential Palace after midday with President Niinistö officially welcoming President Putin, followed by President Trump. The bilateral discussions between the Russian and American presidents took place in the Presidential Palace’s Gothic Hall. Their bilateral meeting was be followed by a wider working lunch in the Hall of Mirrors.
Prior to the working lunch, the Foreign Minister of Russia and the U.S. Secretary of State also met for discussions at the Presidential Palace.
The wider talks were be followed by a joint press conference given by President Trump and President Putin in the Hall of State.
After the press conference, President Niinistö and President Putin met at the Presidential Palace.
Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini also met with the American Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in the Presidential Palace.
The day concluded with a press conference given by President Niinistö at the Presidential Palace.
