Education, sciences and innovation were in focus during the visit to Finland by the President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, on 19–20 October. President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö received his guest at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, 20 October.
“President Rousseff has made reform of the educational sector the main theme of her government. We are delighted to showcase Finnish expertise in this area,” stated President Niinistö at a press conference. “Our cooperation has been expedited by issues such as student and educational exchanges and teacher training. We share an ambition to increase and deepen this cooperation, which is in our mutual interests.”
According to President Niinistö, Finland and Brazil have highly promising opportunities to develop trade and investment. “Brazil’s national economy is the seventh largest in the world and the country is Finland’s largest trading partner in Latin America. Some 50 Finnish companies have invested in Brazil. Brazilian businesses are warmly welcome to invest in Finland.”
“We also discussed environmental and climate issues. One of our shared interests is the production of biofuels – already being done on a large scale in Brazil,” said President Niinistö.
Brazil will continue to interest Finns in the future. “I can assure you that the eyes of the Finnish people will be on Brazil, or at least on their TV screens, during the Olympic Games next summer. We wish the Games the greatest success!” said President Niinistö.
