President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö attended the Summit for Democracy, hosted by President of the United States Joe Biden, on Thursday, 9 December 2021. The high-level sections of the summit were held virtually.
“Our own experience demonstrates that democratic institutions, respect for human rights, and the principle of the rule of law, are the cornerstones for peace and development”, President Niinistö said in his statement at the summit.
The United States invited more than one hundred states to the summit. The themes of the summit are strengthening and defending democracy, addressing and fighting corruption, advancing human rights, and the challenges to democracy.
