President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö held discussions with the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, 9 March 2022. The meeting, held by remote connection, focused on Russia’s warfare in Ukraine, the security situation in Europe and the impact of the current situation on Finland’s foreign and security policy.
“There has been close dialogue with European leaders in recent weeks. We all hope for peace. At the same time, we must think calmly and analytically what is best for Finland and the security of Finns in this new situation”, said President Niinistö.
President Niinistö meets regularly with the Parliamentary Committees to discuss current issues with them. The President last met with the Foreign Affairs Committee on 11 February 2022.
On Thursday, President Niinistö will meet with the Speaker and the Deputy Speakers of Parliament, the Chairs of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committees, and the leaders of parties elected to Parliament. On Friday, the President will meet by remote connection with the Parliamentary Committee on Defence.
