President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday, 3 March 2020 in Mäntyniemi.
President Niinistö and Foreign Minister Lavrov had a serious conversation on the situation in Syria and Idlib and the humanitarian distress it causes. President Niinistö underlined that an immediate end to the suffering of the civilians is indispensable and referred to the meeting of Presidents Putin and Erdogan on Thursday. The President and the Foreign Minister also discussed stability of the Baltic Sea region, the Russian initiative for a P5 summit, arms control and other international questions.
