Foreign Affairs Counsellor Teemu Tanner B.Soc.Sc. has been appointed Secretary General and Head of the Cabinet of the Office of the President of the Republic.He will be taking up the post on 1 April 2012. Mr Tanner is currently Director General of the Political Department at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, where he has been employed since 1985.
President of the Republic Tarja Halonen appointed Mr Tanner to the post of Secretary General at her last Presidential session of the Government on 24 February, at the request of President-elect Sauli Niinistö.
The current Secretary General, Päivi Kairamo-Hella, will continue in her post until the end of March, after which she will be transferred to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in preparation for taking up the post of Head of the Permanent Mission of Finland in Geneva as of 1 July.
President-elect Sauli Niinistö has made a separate announcement of other appointments to his Cabinet.
