President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö convened a meeting on the situation in Russia on Saturday evening, 24 June 2023. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and the government ministers responsible for security issues: Minister of Finance Riikka Purra, Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen, Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen, Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio and Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen. Representatives of the authorities responsible for security were also present.
Based on the briefing received and the discussion that followed, it was concluded that after the developments of the past 24 hours the situation in Russia remains unclear. The development of this internal Russian issue is being monitored very closely both in Finland and together with allies and partners.
Finland’s own security situation is stable. The Finnish security authorities are up to date. The President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy will also address the situation in Russia.
