The duties and powers of the President of the Republic of Finland are defined in the Constitution. The duties of the Office of the President of the Republic of Finland are laid down in the Act on The Office of the President of the Republic (100/2012) and in the Decree on the Rules of Procedure of the Office of the President of the Republic (150/2015).
The processing of personal data is based on the following statutes:
- Act on the Openness of Government Activities (621/1999)
- Decree on the Openness of Government Activities and on Good Practice in Information Management (1030/1999)
- Administrative Procedure Act (434/2003)
- Data Protection Act (1050/2018)
- Safety Clearance Act (726/2014).
The Office of the President of the Republic of Finland processes personal data in order to comply with its legal obligations and to exercise official authority vested in it in accordance with points (c) and (e) of Article 6(1) of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We process special categories of personal data on grounds of public interest as provided for in point (g) of Article 9(2) of the GDPR and section 6, subsection 1, paragraph 2 of the Data Protection Act.
The data subject has the right to request access to his or her personal data, rectification or restriction or erasure of processing of his or her personal data, and in certain situations, the right to object to the processing personal data concerning him or her. The data subject also has the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority.
In Finland compliance with data protection legislation is monitored by The Data Protection Ombudsman.
