President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation on 27 May 2020.
The Presidents discussed the coronavirus situations in Finland and Russia as well as bilateral economic, environmental and other cooperation between the countries. On international affairs, the Presidents spoke about Arctic cooperation, arms control and the initiative made by President Putin early this year on a summit of the permanent members of the UN Security Council. President Niinistö stated that the need for dialogue between the great powers has become increasingly important in recent months.
The call was made on Finland’s initiative.
