President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö will travel to London to attend the Paralympic Games between 2 and 4 September 2012. President Niinistö will follow the performance of Finnish athletes in various sports and will also visit the athletes at the Paralympic Village.
From London, President Niinistö will travel to Hungary for a working visit. On Tuesday, 4 September President Niinistö will meet Hungarian President János Áder, Foreign Minister János Martonyi and Speaker László Kövéri in Budapest. President Niinistö will also visit the Elte University, where he will be awarded an honorary doctorate. President Niinistö will hold an honorary lecture and visit the department of Finno-Ugric Studies.
On Wednesday, 5 September President Niinistö will attend the opening ceremony of the 6th World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples in Siófok. Organised every four years, the World Congress handles questions relating to the retention and revival of the language and culture of Finno-Ugric peoples, and to the rights of indigenous peoples and minorities.
The programme of the two-day visit to Hungary will also include the inauguration of the Finnish Museum at Pappenheim Castle, as well as a meeting with Finns residing in Hungary.
