President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö and his spouse Jenni Haukio will be going to Iceland on a state visit on 28–29 May. President Niinistö will be having talks with the President of Iceland, Ólafur Ragnar Grimsson, on Tuesday 28 May.
President Niinistö will also visit the Parliament of Iceland and attend an Arctic panel at the University of Iceland. In the afternoon, the President and his wife will visit the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies.
On the second day of the state visit, President Niinistö’s programme will include visits to the University of Reykjavik, the Svartseng geothermal power plant and Thingvellir National Park.
The President’s wife, Mrs Jenni Haukio, will have her own programme for part of the visit: she will be introduced to the Barnahus child welfare facility and will visit the Halldór Laxness Museum, housed in the former home of the Nobel Prize winning author.
